Terms of Service
Last updated: June 15, 2026
Welcome. These Terms of Service ("Terms") are the agreement between you and Psychology Dictionary Lab ("we", "us", "the App"). By creating an account, using the app, or responding to a survey hosted at psychologydictionary.app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
1. Who can use the App
You must be at least 17 years old to create an account. The app is intended for psychology students, researchers, educators, and adjacent professionals. By creating an account you confirm you meet this age requirement.
2. Your account
- You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential.
- You are responsible for all activity under your account.
- You can delete your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account; this is irreversible and removes your projects, surveys, responses, analyses, and generated documents within 30 days.
3. Your content
You retain ownership of everything you create in the app — your research designs, survey configurations, statistical results, and APA documents. By using the app you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to host, process, and display that content to you and to provide the service (including sending portions to Anthropic for AI-assisted suggestions; see our Privacy Policy for details).
We do not own your research output. You may export and reuse it freely.
4. Survey participants & research ethics
When you create a survey and share its link, you become the data controller for the participant responses you collect. You agree that:
- Your research has the necessary institutional approval (IRB or equivalent) if it involves human subjects.
- You will obtain informed consent from participants where required.
- You will not collect personally identifying information from participants (name, email, contact details) unless explicitly authorized by your IRB.
- You will comply with all applicable laws including GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA where relevant, and your institution's data-handling policies.
We provide infrastructure; you remain responsible for the lawful and ethical conduct of your research.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to:
- Use the app to collect data from participants under false pretenses or without consent.
- Submit content that is unlawful, defamatory, harassing, infringes another's rights, or contains malicious code.
- Attempt to access another user's account or data.
- Reverse-engineer, scrape, or stress-test our infrastructure.
- Use the app to send unsolicited communications.
- Resell or sublicense the app or its outputs as a stand-alone product.
6. Free tier and Pro subscription
6.1 Free tier
Free accounts may create one (1) research project and collect up to fifty (50) responses per survey. Free accounts have full access to the eight-step wizard, statistical analyses, and PDF export of APA documents.
6.2 Pro subscription
Psychology Dictionary Lab Pro is an auto-renewing annual subscription priced at USD $79.99 per year (or local currency equivalent set by Apple). Pro removes the project and response limits and unlocks .docx export.
6.3 Auto-renewal (required Apple disclosure)
- Payment will be charged to your Apple ID at confirmation of purchase.
- Your subscription automatically renews unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period.
- Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period.
- You can manage and cancel your subscription in your Apple ID account settings after purchase. Open the Settings app → tap your name → Subscriptions.
- Any unused portion of a free trial (if offered) will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription.
6.4 Refunds
All subscription purchases are processed by Apple and refund requests must be submitted via Apple's standard process at reportaproblem.apple.com. We do not directly process refunds for App Store purchases.
7. AI-generated content
The wizard suggestions, statistical interpretations, and APA documents the app generates are produced with the assistance of Anthropic's Claude language model. AI output can be inaccurate, incomplete, or unsuitable for your specific research context. You are responsible for reviewing, verifying, and editing any AI-generated content before submitting it as academic work. We make no warranty that AI output is accurate, original, or fit for publication.
8. Disclaimers
The app is provided "as is" and "as available". To the maximum extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties — express, implied, statutory — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.
The app is a research-design and analysis tool. It is not a substitute for professional clinical advice, IRB review, or supervisory guidance.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, in no event will we be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or any loss of profits, data, or revenues, arising out of or in connection with your use of the app. Our total liability for any direct damages will not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim, or USD $100, whichever is greater.
10. Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you materially breach these Terms, or if required by law. You may terminate your account at any time via Settings → Delete Account. On termination, your right to use the app ends; Sections 3, 7, 8, 9, and 11 survive.
11. Changes
We may update these Terms. We will post the new version with an updated "Last updated" date and, for material changes, notify you in-app or by email. Your continued use of the app after the effective date constitutes acceptance.
12. Governing law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. The exclusive venue for any dispute is the state and federal courts located in New York County, New York.
